Abstract

The objective is to investigate popular knowledge in a rural community that may be considered related to scientific knowledge. Therefore, from a qualitative approach, we will work with the residents of the rural settlement Bela Vista do Chibarro, located in the city of Araraquara, in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. How technique, we will use observation and semi-structured interviews with employees of different modalities within the settlement: farmers working with fields and kitchen gardens, residents who develop housework and / or agricultural village, among others that may be identified. The proposal is to raise, with the interviews, elements that allow to understand how use of land, the perception of the influence of natural phenomena on the plantations, the relationship with the natural environment, the use of food, among other aspects, including exploration of myths present in popular culture. The intention is that the project provides grants that allow, at a later time, to investigate how school teachers placed in this community deal with this diversity of knowledge in science teaching, if are valued by members of the community as bearers of traditional knowledge and practices that can contribute to the school formal, settle counterpoints between traditional knowledge and scientific, among others.
