Abstract In the present work we propose an experimental investigation on the preparation and physical properties of the Ba3Ca1.18Nb1.52R0.3O9-´ (where R = Y, Sm, Gd) ceramics. Similar systems have been studied during last decades owing to their huge potential as electrolyte membranes for proton conducting solid oxide fuel cells (PC-SOFC). High proton conductivity and improved chemical stability are important parameters for applications in energy conversion and storage. In our study, we intend to evaluate the role of the substituting ions in the structural, morphological, compositional and electrical properties of the Ba3Ca1.18Nb1.52R0.3O9-´ ceramics. This project entitled Proton conducting ceramics based on the Ba3Ca1.18Nb1.52R0.3O9-´ (where R = Y, Sm, Gd) systems: preparation and physical properties is aimed to introduce the undergraduate student to the synthesis and characterization of the advanced ceramics. | |
