Abstract

This project addresses a gap in the Brazilian scientific literature: the political dimension of adventure practices; as well as to search for interpretative solutions for a problem that arose during field research: the political dispute between sports and tourism entities due to the regulation of risk in adventure activites in Brazil. However, two obstacles arose from the data collection process: a) designing procedures for the analysis of qualitative data categorised along the border between physical education research, sports science, and leisure studies and b) insufficient examples and models for suggesting possible paths to overcoming the conflict between sport and tourism entities. This internship is thus justified because its goals are: to improve the methodology and development of data analysis, with the supervision of an etnography specialist on this hybrid field, and to search for new data that will, after a comparison is made, allow strategies adopted in New Zealand, considered the world capital for adventure practices, in response to this problem, to inspire new interpretations of the Brazilian condition.
