Abstract

The Brazilian prison system is one of the most inefficient of the world. Considered as the forth biggest population behind the bars on earth, the Brazilian prisons suffer with negligence and little investment of the government. With the raise of 380% in the last 20 years, the residents living in overcrowded environments, making their rehabilitation more difficult, almost impossible. One of the possible solutions is through architecture, a deep study about the translucent concrete and its possibilities of light transmission and architectural illumination. These possibilities aims to make a habitable environment, with minimal living conditions. The present study, has by objective the production of this alternative material in large scale, for in the future, can be applied in prisons cheaply and efficiently
