Abstract

When studying the therapeutic interaction, all the process of change that happens within therapy must be considered, thus being relevant to the clinical practices, for it unveils what it is that makes some therapy be considered successful going beyond merely regarding the issue of proper techniques to be applied. So far, research on this field reveals itself remarkable, for it contributes to the clinical practice of the therapists themselves and, at the same time, ensures an efficient treatment of the client. The purpose of this research is to analyze the therapeutic interaction when treating client suffering from social anxiety disorder by means of a behavioral-analytic therapy, intending to identify the qualifiers emotional tone and presence or absence of illustrative gestures regarding both client and therapist's category of behavior, identify the qualifiers of the time approach and theme conduction regarding the category of the theme of the session and, finally, describe the relation of dependence between both client and therapist's behavior by means of sequential analysis. The categorization of both behaviors and theme of the sessions has already been done and will be attached to the categorization of the qualifiers. The Multidimensional System for Coding Behavior in Therapeutic Interaction will be employed in the categorization of 22 sessions of two clients suffering from social anxiety disorder that were treated under behavioral-analytic therapy along with further social abilities training. Uttermost, the identification of the qualifiers as well as the sequential analysis of the behaviors of the therapeutic dyad will be done. (AU)
