Abstract

The starting point of this project is the verification of a peculiar framework between the 1930s and 1960s of economic, social and political conditions in Latin American countries, including Brazil and Argentina. In this context it is of our special interest the debate on affordable housing placed at the continental level by the architecture and urban planning professionals, which among other issues, suggested an integration of housing design and urban planning. Facing the housing issue turned into reality in this period by the constitution of a complex state machine - supported by institutional, legal and technical mechanisms - our proposition is the study of the participation of architects and planners in this process, specifically in the construction of social housing plans where it would be legitimized the association of housing and urban planning.
