Abstract

The development of new processes and the search for new materials is essential for obtaining efficient phosphors that absorb radiation in the ultraviolet region and adequate chemical stability. Among the various existing methodologies for the synthesis of these phosphors, the non-hydrolytic sol-gel process presents better homogeneity and purity of the final product. In this project, matrices of GdNbO4 doped with Eu3+ ions will be prepared by the non-hydrolytic sol-gel process, in order to investigate the correlation between the concentration of Gd3+ ions and the time of synthesis on the structural, morphological and spectroscopic properties, providing thus phosphors more efficient. The matrices prepared will be initially investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which intends to investigate the morphology and particle size. Further information will be obtained through the techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and mainly through spectroscopic luminescence (excitation, absorption and emission) and vibrational spectroscopy (FTIR).
