Abstract

The objectives of this study will be: 1) To analyze and to compare the effect of the exercise performed at different pedal frequencies on peak torque (PT) and SC, and; 2) To correlate the changes in muscle strength and SC on the respective pedal frequencies. Active males, with ages between 20-25 years will participate of this study whose will perform six visits on the laboratory. In the first two visits the participants will perform two progressive tests (i.e., pedal frequencies of 50 rpm and 110 rpm) for the determination of ventilatory threshold (VT) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), in random order. Subsequently, the participants will perform the following constant workload tests, at 50% of the difference between VT and VO2max (50%”), in different days and in random order: 1) A 5-s sprint test at 120 rpm followed by a 1-h recovery period. A 3-min test at 50 rpm followed by a second 5-s sprint at similar conditions described previously; 2) Two 8-min tests at a 50 rpm, with 1 h of recovery between them. After the second 8-min test, the 5-s sprint will be performed; 3) A 5-s sprint test at 120 rpm followed by a 1-h recovery period. A 3-min test at 110 rpm followed by a second 5-s sprint at similar conditions described previously, and; 4) Two 8-min tests at a 110 rpm, with 1 h of recovery between them. After the second 8-min test the 5-s sprint will be performed. The normality will be checked by the Shapiro-Wilk test. The relationship between the SC and PT will be performed by the Pearson correlation test. The comparison of the SC and PT will be performed by the Student t test for paired data. The significance level will be set at p d 0.05. (AU)
