Abstract The clinical strategies currently used to undermine the role of parents in the therapeutic process, instructing them to change their linguistic behavior in front of children who stutter. There is evidence that reductions in speech rate of mothers resulted in similar reductions in the speech of children who stutter. The hypothesis raised by this study is that there is a relationship between the speech of stuttering children with their mothers. Objective: To investigate the relationship between the rate of disfluencies and speech rate of stuttering children with their mothers. Methods: 15 mother-child pairs will be selected, including 15 children diagnosed with stuttering and fluent 15 mothers (no complaints and evidence of changes in communication). Diagnosis of stuttering, aged between 5 years to 9 years, male or female will be the inclusion criteria for children. The group of mothers must not have evidence of complaints or changes in communication. All children will undergo speech therapy evaluation: the evaluation of language and speech will be analyzed by means of spontaneous speech and phonology and vocabulary of ABFW protocols; (Andrade et al, 2002.) the level of severity of stuttering will be classified by the protocol SSI-3 (Riley, 1994); of pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry and acoustic impedance measurements tests will be conducted. Regarding the group of mothers will be held recording of spontaneous speech for classification and evaluation of disfluency rate of speed of syllables and words per minute. The data collected will be organized into spreadsheets and graphs and will later be subjected to statistical analysis of relevant variables quantitative, qualitative and non-parametric nature. | |
