Abstract

The project´s main goal is to study the effects of ultrasonic irradiation over the alkylation reaction between organic carbonates and alcohols.Once is known that the dimethyl carbonate (DMC) acts rather as an alkylating agent in high temperatures, is expected that under ultrasound conditions the same selectivity will be obtained, because according the hot-spot theory for the cavitation effects temperature and reaction surrounding´s pressure may get about 5000K and 1000 atm, respectively; and warming taxes and cooling get over 10(-10) K/s. Thus, the cavitation (ultrasound) may create extraordinary physic and chemical in cold liquids.Nowadays, methylation´s reactions using DMC need to use the autoclave once the needed temperatures for these achievements are over 160 ºC and the DMC´s boiling point is 90ºC. This high tax of warming and cooling obtained could be with ultrasound help to transpose the necessity of using high pressure equipment (also known as autoclave) in these methylation reactions achievements (alkylation).
