Abstract

The accelerated aging process has brought not only changes in the demographic profile, but also in the epidemiological profile of the population. Among the health problems found in the elderly, mental disorders are noteworthy, given that they affect about one-third of this population. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and the Mild Neurocognitive Disorders (mild NCD) have been associated with higher levels of cognitive impairment, as well as increase the risk of developing major NCD, especially Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Therefore, it is important that preventive identification of individuals at increased risk for developing AD in order to provide early treatment. Thus this study aims to identify biological processes in pursuit of common CSF and peripheral markers that demonstrate a predisposition of elderly patients with MDD develop major NCD, with high rates of conversion to AD. It will be determined the protein expression of secretases ADAM10, BACE1 and PSEN1 and peptide A² in leucocytes and CSF by western blotting method. (AU)
