Abstract

This proposal aims to study the instability mechanisms of an open cavity flow. The issue will be addressed within the scope of the global linear stability theory. In this approach, the stability of a basic flow generated by direct numerical simulation, consists in investigating the response of the flow to small-amplitude disturbances. Linear instability analyzes based on eigenvalues of problem solving may be limited depending on the assumptions for the base flow, and therefore has a huge computational cost. The purpose of this project is to propose the use of the technique of multidomain decomposition to solve the eigenvalue problem, reducing drastically the computational resources, and the application of non-reflective boundary conditions. With this approach we would expect a reduction in the computational domain and therefore, a reduction of the computational cost, thus making it feasible to study the mechanisms of instability within the proposed scope. This project presents an opportunity that allows to address an issue with fundamental value that can produce direct benefits for the industry. (AU)
