Abstract

Normativity is a fundamental question to Wilfrid Sellars's theoretical and practical philosophy. He adopts a pragmatic, inferentialist, naturalistic, and non-reductionist understanding of normative practices. However, Sellars's description of the process of institution of norms is incomplete since he does not explain the cognitive abilities necessary for the normative learning process to be successful. The main objective of this research is to investigate Sellars's approach to normativity and sought to show that a contemporary alternative to extend Sellars's theory of normative practices is to appeal to the connectionist approach to mindness.
