Abstract

The reaching movement performed with the upper limb is used in several activities in our day-to-day, and mostly during the upright stance. To perform these activities with success is necessary an adequate postural control, to ensure that the individual to move and maintain the balance under the different situations. The assessment of the posture control while performing reaching movement (called focal movements) can be performed by measurements related to changes on center of pressure called Anticipatory Postural Adjustments. In general, the studies indicated that several factors such as accuracy, distance, speed of movement, the final position uncertainty of the target, direction and target size to be reached can influence the Anticipatory Postural Adjustments. However, the effects of target location, i.e, height, on the center of pressure displacements of each lower limb before and during the focal movement were not investigated yet. Therefore, the aim of this study will be to investigate the influence of the target location (height) to be reached on the postural adjustments by the center of pressure displacement and weight bearing of lower limbs during the reaching movement on the upright standing in healthy individuals. The results of this study may contribute to the understanding of postural adjustments in function of specific parameters (in this case, the target height) of reaching movement.
