Abstract

The objective of this study is to make a current overview of nutritional and management practices adopted by Brazilian feedlot cattle nutritionists in Brazil, which will try to identify critical issues for control, as well as contribute to generate new hypothesis for research. Forty feedlot cattle nutritionists will be surveyed to evaluate the management practices and nutritional recommendations adopted by cattle feedlots in Brazil. These professionals will be contacted by either e-mail or telephone regarding their participation in this survey. The web-based survey consisted of 81 questions that included: general information (n = 10); general commodity information (n = 15); use of coproducts (n = 5), roughage source and level (n = 5); adaptation methods (n = 7); feed mixers (n = 6); feeding management (n = 6); cattle management and type of cattle fed (n = 13); formulation practices (n = 9); information resources used for nutritional recommendations (n = 2); additional questions (n = 3). This survey was conducted using methods similar to those employed by Millen et al. (2009), that included a web-based survey tool (http://www.survey monkey.com). all data were tabulated in an Excel Spreadsheet (Microsoft, Redmond, WA). The number of responses, mean, minimum value, maximum value, and mode will be calculated for responses to all questions.
