Abstract

The present work seeks to analyze the researches undertaken in the French Antilles by anthropologists Michel Leiris (1901-1990) and Alfred Métraux (1902-1963) during the 1940s and 1950s. We aim to understand the intellectual crossings and interchanges between both authors as researchers and employees of international agencies. The relations between anthropology and politics, as well as anthropology and arts, are important features of the authors' reflections during the period, hence their interests covering racial issues and African-based religions. The circulation of both intellectuals in the negritude movement, arising in France at that time, is also an important interest of this project. (AU)
