Abstract

In Brazil, osteoarthritis is a public health problem, with significant socioeconomic implications, both for the individual and for society. Their costs are mainly related to a high frequency of acute and chronic complications, which are causes of hospitalization, disability and lost productivity. The aim of this study is to evaluate the evolution of knee osteoarthritis rat second histological evaluation of OARSI (Osteoarthritis Research Society International). 24 rats will be divided into 4 groups: Control (C), Osteoarthritis 3 months (OA3), Osteoarthritis 6 months (OA6) Osteoarthritis 9 months (OA9). The animal model of osteoarthritis is the transection of the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee. After the period of exposure of each disease group, the knee joints of all animals will be collected and processed for the preparation of histological slides, which will be stained by Hematoxylin for histological evaluation of articular cartilage, according to the OARSI recommendations. To assess the correlation between the tests results obtained with R e 0.8 Spearman p d 0.05 is used. To compare the histological evaluation of the different groups the non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test is used with post hoc Newman Keuls (p d 0.05). It is hoped that the results of this project will bring significant contribution to the elucidation of the mechanisms related to histological evolution of osteoarthritis in an attempt to justify further treatment strategies and disease control.
