Abstract

Discusses the perspectives and trends of librarian'sactivities in the health area. Is evidenced that the librarian'swork field is wide, because the librarians can act in different contexts of knowledge, not restricted to traditional spaces, and lately has had a significant activities in the health area. In the literature the librarian who works in this context has different denominations such as, 'Clinical Librarian', 'Medical Librarian' and 'Informationist', because is part of the medical staff, integrating the medical staffby subsidizing it with health information for decision making, as well as with respect to the diagnosis of the clinical status. In this way, the question what are the competencies and skills required for this professional acting with effectiveness in the health area and what are the perspectives and trends of the librarian's role in this area. It is intended analyze the literature on the role of the librarian in the health area environments, aimed at mapping the competencies and skills needed to establish the perspectives and activity trends. It is argued that the efficient planning of information flows and the implementation of information and knowledge management are essential to the health organizations to succeed in exercising its function in society.
