Abstract

Due to the increase in carrying out scientific research in Brazil, there is a change in the research profile required for this type of work. The statistical knowledge, of course, is an essential tool for analyzing data from a survey. In a peculiar way, we note that within the various existing diseases at the veterinary clinic for small animals, particularly in dogs, leishmaniasis and ehrlichiosis has excelled in the search, not only for improvements in health, but also in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment. The ehrlichiosis is a hemoparasitosis frequently found in clinical of small animals, causing severe symptoms that can lead the animal to death. In turn, leishmaniasis is a zoonosis of great importance and impact on public health and the dogs play an important role in the epidemiology of this anthropozoonosis as trypanosomatids reservoirs. The aim of this study is to investigate, by statistical methods, the occurrence of cross-reactivity with Leishmania spp. and Ehrlichia spp. using serological and molecular techniques. The minimum sampling required for the implementation of this project, the confidence level of 95% and a relative accuracy of 10% was calculated in 384 samples, we used a population ratio of 50%. As a safety margin, will be collected 400 samples from dogs. These will be processed through the indirect Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Will be considered cross-reactive dogs that are experiencing positive results in serological test for both parasites and present a negative result in one of the molecular tests. Statistical analysis will consist of the Chi-square and McNemar tests. Statistics will be considered significant when P <0.05. The database will be created with Microsoft Office Excel 2010, and the statistical analyzes will be performed with the computer program SAS® (Statistical Analysis System) version 9.3. (AU)
