Abstract

In my sabbatical in Irvine I chose the following problems which will be studied in more details.1) Performance prediction on GPUs. The main idea behind it is to adapt the existing BSP parameters and also introduce new ones to predict performance of applications. The motivation behind it is the highly synchronous behavior of GPU kernels (blocks of code executed on GPUs). 2) Combination of algorithms to solve a problem. We intend to explore the parallelism both on solving the problem, either using several algorithms simultaneously or using parallel algorithms; and by using parallel environments to find the combinations faster. 3) Software development using agile methods. In the last years we have been studying several questions related to the improvement of some aspect related to software development with Agile Methods. As the experiments and observations are done in real environments we can not use traditional techniques as simulations, extensive experiments or quantitative analysis. Other approaches have to be used. This involves from qualitative research and some ad-hoc methods. The first one is already an ongoing work with some preliminary results. The second one I started in the end of the last year and the third one is still an exploratory work. (AU)
