Abstract

The purpose of this study is to in vitro evaluate the effect of dentin pretreatment with 2.5% or 4% titanium tetrafluoride (TiF4) or when incorporated into a primer of a two-step self-etching adhesive system (Cleafil SE Bond/ CL) in relation to their potential to inhibit caries lesion development around tooth/restoration interface. Fifty cavities in the dentinoenamel junction will be prepared in dental blocks obtained from the vestibular or lingual surfaces of twenty-five third molars randomly distributed among treatments (n=8): CL; 2.5% TiF4 aqueous solution + CL; 4% TiF4 aqueous solution + CL; 2.5% TiF4 incorporated in CL primer; 4% TiF4 incorporated in CL primer. The cavities will be restored with nanohybrid composite resin. The dental block will be completely impermeabilized, except for the restoration and 1mm around it, to be submitted to pH cycles to induce artificial caries lesion. After this period the blocks will be sectioned, embedded and planned to perform the microhardness tests to evaluate the presence of demineralization around the restorations. Nine measurements will be taken around the restorations on the enamel margins and nine on the dentin margins in different distances and depths. The statistical analysis will be executed according to the homogenous or not homogenous distribution by the use of parametric or non-parametric tests, respectively, adopting the significance level of 5%.
