Abstract

It is known that elderly presented a loss in Rate of Force Development (RFD) when compared to the young, due to decreased muscle function with age. However, there are few studies that refer to the hip abductor muscles, and the influence of RFD these muscles in postural control. In this way, the aim of this study is to analyze the correlation between the neural and muscular factors of the RDF in the hip abductor muscles and the tandem gait, which may provide important information for us to understand the influence of this muscle group in the balance. For this, independent people of the community will be evaluated with more than 60 years. There will be measurement of the RDF in the hip abductor muscles and dynamic balance. Participants carry out the assessments in two days, with pre-determined interval of two to seven days between them. First there will be the evaluation of the dynamic balance on the force platform Balance Master of Neurocom® brand, by the tandem gait test. Later that day, the familiarization of the individual will be made in the isokinetic dynamometer equipment (Biodex, System 4 Pro, New York, USA). On the second day, the tests will be repeated at the isokinetic dynamometer, with the equipment synchronized to electromyography module (EMG System, Brazil) obtaining a sampling frequency of 2000 Hz, to record the RFD data to be included in the survey. All the statistical analyses will be performed using the program GraphPadPrism version 5.0 for Windows (GraphPad Software, San Diego, California, USA) and will be adopted a significance level of 5% (p £ 0,05). The results are expressed as mean and standard deviation of the average.
