Abstract

Universities are inserted in a system where the consumption model adopted is succumbing progressively through the ability to produce the necessary resources for the maintenance of life and to absorb the waste generated in the use of them. These areas of training and dissemination of knowledge play a great influence on society and therefore also exert pressure on nature, making it conducive environments for application of sustainability indicators. Thus, the general objective of this research is to analyze the impact on the environment exercised by the activities carried out in the Campus of Tupa of the Universidade Estadual Paulista "Julio de Mesquita Filho" (UNESP) from the calculation of the Ecological Footprint (PE), which is a indicator in hectares ecologically productive land area required for the production and assimilation of the resources used by a population. Therefore, through the case study method, the PE calculation of the educational institution in question is the same adopted in a previous experience at the University of São Paulo (USP), Campus of São Carlos, allowing the comparison of research results. This project will contribute to knowledge of the responsibilities of each and the institution itself by its environmental impact as well as providing information for possible more sustainable attitudes in management and collective and individual behavior in the Campus of Tupã.
