Abstract

This project presents innovative approaches to the development of composite systems from silica capillaries and nanometric ceramic powders aiming their use as laser's active medium precursors. For such applications, nanometric powders of excellent structural quality are required, which means that their shape, composition, crystallinity, grain size and emission parameters must be well defined. Thus, there is a need of developing chemical routes and specific densification methods for each material in view of its application. In addition, a careful methodology for filling and immobilizing the nanoparticles in the interior of the capillaries is also required. This research proposal will allow the student to access different nanoparticle's synthetic routes, experiment with luminescent systems, get familiarized with routine characterization techniques, and learn more about the preparation of random laser systems.
