Abstract

It is proposed in this research project an ethnography of the dwellers of Heliópolis favela, and it will be elaborated a study based on their memories about the housing history and the sprawl of this favela. I propose to develop this study from a fieldwork among the residents that had lived what they say as occupy/invasion of Heliópolis, which started in 1971, and its growth decades later. As a general hypothesis, I suggest that the concept of proceed and wlak allowed us to verify the connection between past and present, enabling us to: 1) understand why the memories of the residents always refers itself to the occupy/invasion and to the growth of Heliópolis; 2) ascertain the difference that exist between the terms occupy and invasion; 3) From the notion of growth, list the constitutes events of the housing process of the region; 4) reveal how the experience of dwell in a favela may be expressed by memory; 5) describe the way that the inhabitants perceive possible changes in the Heliópolis over time.
