Abstract

The vulnerability is an important tool in order to broaden the understanding about the determinants of the health-disease. This study aims to investigate the correlation among the individual, social and program vulnerability and the effect of these domains on the outcomes of the health condition of the elderly population. This is a population-based study, cross-sectional, and observational design, as a part of greater project, which will be held in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. For the selection of the elderly will use the cluster sample in multiple stage with maximum attempts of 808 elderly. The Vulnerable Survey-13 and the questionnaire survey of the National Household Sample will be used respectively, to evaluate the individual and programmatic vulnerability. Social vulnerability will be assessed by the spatial distribution of census tracts in the city of Uberaba, Minas Gerais, using the methodological and operational aspects proposed by the "Índice de Vulnerabilidade em Saúde". Health outcomes will be measured by the assessment of functional capacity, fragility, occurrence of falls, self-rated health and number of morbidities. Thematic maps and spatial analysis will be conducted by Tabwin software 3.2 and TerraView 3.3.1. Data analysis will include factor analysis, prevalence ratio, ANOVA, chi-square test and multivariate regression, which will be performed using the software Statiscal Package for Social Sciences 17.0. This project was approved by Institutional Review Board of the UFTM (protocol number: 493211).
