Abstract

This project comprises an important point of reflection in the contribution to the theoretical construct proposed in the doctoral thesis entitled: "Movements and Networks: Articulation of networks in online social networks by socio-spatial and socio-territorial movements in Brazil and Argentina". The United Kingdom is an important reference in this research and theoretical analysis concerning social movements from different areas of knowledge and studies of social movements in Geography. Participating in the research projects of Dr Bernardo Mançano Fernandes and Dr Paul Routledge and their discussions in respect of theoretical constructions has been a key opportunity towards attaining this goal. We began our research by studying contributions of Brazilian geographers about the construction of concepts of socio-spatial and socio-territorial movements. We propose, in this project, to appropriate the vast theoretical and methodological framework of the United Kingdom to deepen the concepts of socio-spatial and socio-territorial movements to make a comparative analysis between North-South movements linked to the Via Campesina, analyzing their methods and practices, comprising on one hand the Terrain of Resistance and dispute over land and, on the other, the different types of territory these movements construct. We look to deepen our studies with these theoretical reflections, concerning the spatial and territorial actions of these movements which are the object of our doctoral research.
