Abstract

This project aims to use magnetic measurements to study the martensitic transformation in a Fe-Ni-C model alloy, especially regarding to the effect of grain size on the Ms temperature and on the martensitic transformation kinetic. Samples of a Fe-31Ni-0,02C alloy will be produced by mean of arc furnace melting, cold-rolling and annealing at different temperatures to obtain microstructures with different grain sizes. Quantitative metallography will be used to determine the grain size of the samples. The Ms temperature and the martensitic transformation kinetic (transformed fraction versus temperature) will be determined by means of cryogenic magnetization measurements and conventional metallography. The martensite reversion will be studied by means of dilatometry. This study is aligned with the post-doctoral research of the supervisor (FAPESP - 2014 / 23304-8) and with ongoing work carried out in partnership with Prof. Hugo Ricardo Zschommler Sandim (EEL-USP) and Prof. Paulo Rangel Rios (EEIMVR-UFF).
