Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate longitudinally the dental arch dimensions in patients with cleft lip/palate before and after primary surgeries. The sample wil be consisted of 100 digital models of patients with unilateral complete cleft lip (Group 1) and unilateral complete cleft lip and palate (Group 2), obtained at the phase before lip repair (Phase 1), before palate repair (Phase 2) and at 1 year after palate repair (Phase 3). The measure of dental arch will be obtained of the dental models and digitized using a Scanner 3Shape's R700TM and Software Appliance Designer. The following measures will be obtained: area of the dental arch, intercanine distance, intertuberosity distance, anterior-posterior arch depth and total arch depth. The assessment will be carried out by one calibrated investigator. Student's t-test and Dahlberg's formula will be used to determine the casual error. Student's t-test and analysis of variance will be used to determine the significance of differences between groups within the same assay. If necessary, other tests may be applied. The significance level of 5% will be adopted for the differences considered statistically significant.
