Abstract

The lung is a much compromised organ in severe forms of dengue. It is not entirely clear how the vascular endothelium is affected or what triggers vascular leakage, although direct and indirect mechanisms have been proposed. There are few studies with a large number of laboratory confirmed cases of dengue hemorrhagic form and of dengue with complications which describe the histopathological changes, correlating them with endothelial dysfunction, lymphocyte immunophenotyping, TNF-±, nitric oxide expression, VEGF and tissue apoptosis. This project aims to contribute to the elucidation of pulmonary events related to vascular permeability in dengue hemorrhagic fever compared to cases of dengue with complications.
