Abstract

Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is a musculoskeletal disorder related to physical activity, in which the pain is exacerbated in situations undergoing knee to high degrees of flexion. Findings indicate the stimulation of the development of PFPS may be related to increased levels of physical activity, with consequent mechanical overload in the patellofemoral joint. The PFPS affects men, women and young physically active individuals, but few studies intended to study adolescents with PFPS. It is believed that PFPS has beginning in adolescence, in addition to pain also showed up functional limitations already in adolescence. In this context, the aim of this project is to investigate the relationship between physical activity levels in adolescents with Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome with pain and self-reported functional limitations. The evaluation of the physical activity level will be conducted through two questionnaires, International Physical Activity Questionnaire and Baecke Questionnaire of Habitual Physical Activity, and to assess functional limitations will be used questionnaires Previous Knee Pain Scale and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score. The sample will consist of adolescents with female and male PFPS aged 12-18 years included in the eligibility criteria.
