Abstract

The general objective of this International Research Exchange is to seek, discuss, and improve the contents of the Doctoral Thesis in development, namely, the question of the possible currency of The World as Will and Representation's author, Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), in morals, ethics, politics and law, especially in regard to a particular issue that seems to be the imbrication of these four subjects, namely, the human rights issue, and to verify the extension and impacts of this condition. This effort is consisted of three stages: (i) discussion and exegesis of schopenhauerians' texts and commentators' texts, especially those which deal with his practical philosophy; (ii) an analysis of the Schopenhauer's manuscripts that were the basis for his ethics formulation; and (iii) an evaluation of the extension and impacts of Schopenhauer's arguments. While developing the foregoing stages, it is expected to obtain more elements for the Doctoral Thesis development, which means improving the research to explain the relationship between morality, ethics, rights and politics in Schopenhauer's philosophy. We aim to highlight all of the relevant issues that he brings to the discussion as well as the reasons why other issues there present, do not show significant relevance. Such journey will cause a better comprehension and exposition of the importance of Schopenhauer in contemporary debates on political philosophy and philosophy of law. (AU)
