Abstract

Spasticity is increased pathological phenomenon of neuromuscular tone occurring when there is permanent and long-term damage to the upper motor neuron, thus leading to loss of quality of life, the functional capacity of the individual and psychosocial disorders such as anxiety and depression for patients and their caregivers. Baclofen is a muscle relaxant drug central action, primarily used to treat spasticity of the spinal cord or brain origin. It is similar to the substance gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and acts as an agonist of GABAB receptors in the spinal cord. The baclofen administration subarachnoid allows small doses are used, minimizing adverse effects. The toxicity of baclofen is reported either when the drug is administered by intrathecal routes. The research will be to determine the effects of baclofen administration as a single dose in the subarachnoid space of rabbits on the spinal cord and meninges.
