Abstract

Brazil is the largest producer and exporter of concentrated orange juice world, great factors economic and social importance for the country. However, the citrus industry is subject to various pests and diseases, which may cause financial losses and environmental damages. Citrus leprosis is viral disease of the greater impact, caused by Citrus leprosis virus C (CiLV-C) and transmitted by Brevipalpus spp mites (Acari: Tenuipalpidae). Recently, after morphological and molecular studies, taxonomists resurrected and redescribed the B. phoenicis group, including new species and recovering other. This new information may have a direct impact on leprosis. Therefore, considering the variability of species and host mite, is to know if all have the same vector capacity. Here will be investigated if the mite species, taxonomically newly recovered, B. yothersi, papayensis B. and B. phoenicis sensu strict are able to acquire and inoculate the citrus leprosis virus (CiLV-C), using model plants. The results will contribute essential information for epidemiological studies and virus-vector interation within the leprosis pathosystem.
