Abstract

The purpose for this study is to analyze the alveolar bone regeneration process in ovariectomized (OVX) rats exposed to steroid therapy and treated with zoledronic acid (ZOL). The study conducted in our laboratory, showed possible change of ZOL action by estradiol in an adult rats (06 months), as the combination of ovariectomy with ZOL presented a delay in alveolar bone repair favoring the appearance to necrotic areas. Our hypothesis is that estrogen hormone therapy change the action of ZOL and decrease incidence of osteonecrosis of the jaw after extraction of mandibular first molar of adult rats. Thereby the Wistar rats (06 months) will be sham or ovariectomized (OVX) and formed groups: 1. Sham/NaCl; 2. Sham/ ZOL; 3.OVX/NaCl; 4.OVX/ZOL; 5.OVX/E2/NaCl and 6.OVX/E2/ZOL. The animals in groups 5 and 6 will have pellets containing estradiol (E2) for 90 days. In the eighth week after OVX, begin treatment with ZOL. After 03 weeks of treatment (ZOL) is carried out extraction of the first molar of all experimental animals and 28º days after extraction is carried collecting blood (for measurement of TRAP and estradiol) and removal of the mandible (for histology and immunohistochemistry).
