Abstract

Constructions are subject to weather conditions which vary according to their location. Rain is the most frequent moisture source that affects civil construction, which is the main pathologies cause in buildings. The wind driven rain study allows facades exposure degree evaluation that may induce the use of architectural design strategies and appropriate construction techniques. There is an extensive international bibliography involving direct measure, computational simulation and semi-empirical formulations, but it can be observed that the uncertainties in results are meaningful, because of the direct measures lack of standardization and on the poorly defined meteorological data processing methodologies. The Brazilian experience consists on local semi-empirical formulations applications and the elaboration of a Wind Driven Rain map on a national scale. The present research aims the Wind Driven Rain Index and Directional Wind Driven Rain Index calculation using the classical formulations, and at last, the spatial distribution of results in maps for the Sao Paulo State, with data from the INMET automatic weather stations network. The outcomes will be comparatively analyzed with the studies raised from the specific bibliography.
