Abstract

This project aims to study both spectrum sensing and sharing strategies for enabling large scale deployment of "Internet of things" on the upcoming 5th generation of cellular systems. We investigate scenarios with meager radio resources wherein 3GPP technologies are used to permit machine type communication. Dynamic spectrum sensing strategies will be proposed and evaluated in coexisting dense ad hoc networks and multi-tier cellular systems. Herein, communication devices with heterogeneous radio access technologies and various transmission capabilities share a scarce frequency spectrum. Computer simulations based on the Mote Carlo approach will be used to evaluate the proposed solutions in the scenarios under investigation.
