Abstract

Advances in nanofabrication techniques of materials over the last two decadeshave enabled important achievements in the study of superconductors in the meso and nanoscopic scales. It is well known that superconductorsof low dimensionality, with size of the fundamental lengths $\xi$ (coherence length) and $\lambda$ (London penetration length) exhibit important effects that are not observed inmaterials on a macroscopic scale. In this project, we will study kinematic vortices in rectangular superconducting films with a constriction at the center. Current crowding effects in the formation of vortex-antivortex (V-Av) pairs in the constriction will be studied. The relationship between the VAV's and the $\gamma$ parameter in the generalized time dependent Ginzburg-Landau theory will also be investigated.
