Abstract

The intestine is an organ that allows multiple interactions with the external world. It acts as a selectively permeable barrier, permitting the absorption of nutrients, electrolytes, and water while maintaining an effective defense against intraluminal toxins, antigens, and enteric flora (Groschwitz K. R. et. al., 2009). Innate and adaptative immune cells are distributed in the intestinal mucosa and submucosa, like lymphocytes B and T, dendritic cells, macrophages, eosinophils and mast cells (Mowat A. M. et. al. 2014). IL17 is an important player in regulating innate epithelial and immune responses (Lee, Y. K., et. al. 2011; Gaboriau-Routhiau V., et. al. 2009; Wu S., et. al. 2009; Lemaire M. M., et. al. 2011). Our previous data suggest an important role of IL17 in gastrointestinal tract. There, it acts like a incretin promoting a boost in insulin secretion after feeding. In order to clarify these findings regarding an important new role for IL17, further experiments are required.
