Abstract

The arthropod-borne diseases have been studied in Brazilian wild animals, that may play a role as reservoirs and hosts for both vectors and pathogens, which may show zoonotic potential. The presence of domestic animals in wild environments and, vice versa, may result in a greater exposure of humans to arthropods-borne agents circulating in wild animals. This study aims to investigate, using molecular techniques, the occurrence of agents belonging to Mycoplasma genus in wild and domestic canids from Pantanal of Mato Grosso do Sul. Positive samples in PCR assays will be molecularly characterized by sequencing, in order to validate them, compare them to sequences deposited in GenBank and phylogenetic analyses. Thus, the results obtained will contribute to the diagnosis and molecular characterization of hemoplasmas in a area of Pantanal cohabitated by domestic and wild animals.
