Abstract

Since the decade of 1972-1980, the emerging of the press as source and subject of research provided new possibilities for the historians, considering that the newspapers and magazines, regarded as specific network aggregators, have been utilized as source of identification and analysis of the stream of ideas, values and political projects on a transnational scale. Inserted in those same historiographic alterations, the most recent thematic incursions regarding the World War I (1914-1918) seek the comprehension of the amplitude acquired by the conflict, from the military perspective to the most recent cultural approaches, which underlines the role played by the meanings of communication during the struggle. The attention given by the Brazilian press towards the worldwide conflagration of 1914 offers, thus, an opportunity of articulating the new issues about the conflict with the methodologic propositions that turn the press into more than a deposit of reliable information. In this sense, the analysis of the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, a relevant means of sociability among intellectuals of the period, led to topics about the system of representations of the war in Europe and its complex dynamics. The proposal of the Abroad Internship Scholarship aims to promoting a larger the comprehension of the historiographic matters involved in the most recent debates about the war culture, with a focus to the unique occasion of the centennial of the conflagration (2014-2018). For this reason, it is proposed the participation in the events programed by the Mission du Centenaire, under guidance of Dr. Stéphane Audoin-Rouzeau, who is one of the most celebrated specialists on this thematic, and the making of a research at the Bibliothèque de Documentation Internationale Contemporaine (BDIC).
