Abstract

Scientific advances in the stem cell field are of great relevance for the future of Dentistry. These studies are the base for the use of stem cells in regenerative therapy of oral and maxillofacial tissues. Both mesenchymal and epithelial stem cells have already been isolated from teeth but, so far, no one knows the temporal-spatial relationship between cells of these two origins during tooth formation. It is well knows that epithelial/mesenchymal interaction is critical in odontogenesis and it is required for the morphogenesis of the different tissues. This work aims to analyze, by means of immunohistochemistry, the distribution pattern of positive cells for the mesenchymal stem cell markers CD146 and scleraxis, and epithelial stem cells marker Sox-2, at different stages of odontogenesis in mice.
