Abstract

Within the scope of bioenergy production studies, this project will focus on the assessment of an anaerobic sequencing batch and fed-batch operated reactor containing immobilized biomass (AnSBBR) with recirculation of the liquid phase applied to the treatment of effluent from an acidogenic reactor. The effluent of the acidogenic reactor will come from the co-digestion of glycerin (effluent of biodiesel production) and whey (effluent from dairy production) to produce biohydrogen, likely consisting of the main intermediate products of anaerobic metabolism. Biogas production (methane and carbon dioxide), reactor stability and efficiency will be assessed when the reactor is subjected to increased organic load, which will vary according to increasing influent concentration.
