Abstract The present proposal aims to draw the silhouette of an enunciation in André Gide's fictional books. I assume that such books do not compose closed cores, deprived of linkage to one another, but that they can establish a vast enunciation space as a whole. Under this initial look, the hypothesis built in this text means to analyze an enunciative presence in the books from textual markers that manifest themselves in this reputed enunciation space (such as, for instance, certain opposition particles). The very enunciation, in this perspective, can be seen as a space, i.e., as a position taken towards language, that leaves trails in textual indicators, as suggested by Émile Benveniste in "De la subjectivité dans le langage". This hypothesis turns itself against a part of critics that sees enunciators' multiplicity and diversity in Gide always referring to fixed identity, such as the author or the narrator, which are, however, narrow categories to apprehend the enunciative singularity presented in his texts. The exploration of my hypothesis will therefore appear followed by an effort of critical self-reflection, seeking to divert my writing from jargons that prevent this enunciative singularity to be reached. This proposal continues a research already started in Masters course, which culminated in the hypothesis that guides this project. (AU) | |
