Abstract Studies carried out in Brazil indicate that 1.5 to 1,000 people have some kind of facial cleft lip, palate, or both. After systematic literature research done for this project, it was found a lack of studies in Brazil that investigates the parental consanguineous marriage in cases of cleft lip and palate. Considering parental consanguinity an important variable to be featured in the family history of diseases that have genetic component in the etiology, as the case of cleft lip and palate, the aim of this project is investigate the prevalence of parental consanguineous marriage between parents of patients with cleft lip and palate. Therefore, will be evaluated 2,500 subjects medical records enrolled in the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies of the University of São Paulo (HRAC-USP), with the purpose of collect data about the prevalence of parental consanguineous marriage between the parents of individuals with cleft lip and palate, the distribution of types of clefts that occur between cases of consanguineous marriage that are found. | |
