Abstract

This project aims is to study the biodiversity of three families of Ophiuroidea, Amphiuridae, Ophiactidae, and Ophiotrichidae. These families were chosen for presenting various taxonomic problems, belong to the same clade monophyletic, be representative and co-occur in soft bottom, and fauna associated. The study will be conducted by external and internal morphological analysis of specimens collected in two ecoregions: I) Islands Trindade and Martin Vaz and II) Southeast of Brazil. For the analysis of external morphology will be compared and described the characters of disc, jaws and arms. However, given the difficulty of recognition and separation of many species, the arm ossicles will also be studied, especially lateral plates and vertebrae ossicle. The morphometry will be used to complement these morphological studies and will aim to highlight the differences between the observed specimens. At the end of this work, the species should be defined precisely and an interactive identification key will be built, a fundamental role for future analysis of biodiversity and phylogeny. (AU)
