Abstract

Taking advantage of the dense distribution of stations installed in the project and the real time data availability the local seismicity will be monitored. The student will be responsible for manually inspecting the records, identify the coherent signals and locate the earthquakes occurring within or near the network. The determination of the local seismicity in the region is an important first step for the other parts of the project, such as seismotectonic studies and stress determinations, which will be used later to validate the results of the numerical experiments. Furthermore, the Pantanal and Chaco basins are bounded by important seismogenic zones that present a high seismic activity considering the natural level of seismicity in the Brazilian shield.
