Abstract

This research aims to analyze the ways in which death was appropriated as an object of power in modern politics. Our starting point is a diagnosis of the limits of Foucault's and Agambem's biopolitics theories as approaches to this problem. Afterwards, we discuss Achille Mbembe's concept necropolitics, which will ground our examination of the practical and subjective effects of the appropriation of death by the political power.
