Abstract

We wish to study the problem of torsion of a cylindrical shaft in the context of the peridinamic theory. This theory is an extension of classical continuum theory and allows modeling of interactions between a material point and its neighbors separated by a finite distance. We intended to implement a computer routine in the numerical code Peridigm, which is based on formulations of mechanical problems using state-based peridynamic models. The routine, in turn, is based on a linearly elastic peridynamic model developed by the supervisor. This project is a continuation of a research project supported by USP and is related to an approved project of the Call for Proposals MCTI/CNPQ/Universal 14/2014. In addition, the student is doing internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in order to start implementation of the computational routine.
