Abstract Marc Bloch and Lucien Febvre, founders of the Annales d'Histoire Économique et Sociale, have published a significant amount of reviews in journals contemporary with the one founded by them in 1929. Nevertheless, historiography, when analysing the extraordinary success the Annales experienced in the 60's and 70's, has tended to ignore these writings and interpret the achievements of the annalistes as a result of specific traits that could be found in the Annales and not in other journals. As a consequence, the different uses of other publishing spaces by Bloch and Febvre is not perceived as part of the process through which the "Annales" came to be a historiographic emblem. This project aims to fulfill this gap by carrying out a comparative analysis of critic reviews published by Bloch and Febvre in the Annales and three other main journals (the Revue de Synthèse, the Revue Historique and the Revue Critique) between 1929 and 1944. The main goal is to requalify the subject usually referred to as "the Annales", looking into the making of this emblem instead of taking it as self sufficient and self evident unit. (AU) | |
